<h3>CHICAGO ENGINEERS&#8217; FOUNDATION OF THE UNION LEAGUE CLUB 2013 ENGINEERING STUDENT INCENTIVE AWARDS CHICAGO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS</h3>
<p>Graduating High School seniors accepted at a 4 year accredited college or university to study engineering are eligible for this award. 40 or more awards of $800 each will be made in June 2013. </p>
<p>Qualifications for Inventive Awards to prospective first year college students are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Graduating Senior in High School in City of Chicago in 2013</li>
<li>Accepted to 4 year Accredited Engineering School</li>
<li>Minimum ACT score of 21 (or SAT equivalent)</li>
<li>Brief Statement of Goals</li>
<li>Endorsement of Guidance Counselor</li>
<li>FAFSA EFC Score</li>
</ul>
<p>Each subsequent year an award recipient may apply for another award providing an acceptable GPA is maintained in an engineering program.</p>
<p><strong>Applications will be accepted until April, 24 2013</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Chicago Engineers Foundation and ULC Public Affairs Sponsor a Premier screening of the film “Chicago Drawbridges”.</strong></p>
<p>On January 29th, the Chicago Engineers Foundation and ULC Public Affairs sponsored a premier screening of the film “Chicago Drawbridges”. Chicago Drawbridges is a documentary directed by Stephen Hatch and narrated by Patrick McBriarty, author and bridge historian, chronicling the importance of<br />
the bridges in the making of the Windy City, from the very first wood footbridge, built by a tavern owner in 1832, to today’s iconic structures spanning the Chicago River.<br />

<p>It is a 50 –minute film that is informative and entertaining, telling the story of Chicago’s development through the bridges based on the forthcoming book<br />
Chicago River Bridgesfrom the University of Illinois Press (October 2013). Created and produced by Stephen Hatch and Patrick McBriarty it also interviews professor, geographer, and author David M. Solzman, PhD.; Brian Steele, Director of Communications for CDOT (2001-2011); map maker and historian Dennis<br />
McClendon of Chicago CartoGraphics; James S. Phillips, PE (ret.); OzanaBalan King, Museum Director, McCormick Bridgehouse&#038; Chicago River Museum; and Grant Crowley owner of Crowley&#8217;s Yacht Yard.</p>
<p>The film will broadcast on WYCC, Channel 20</p>

<p>Daniel Burke, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer of the Chicago Department of Transportation, was the keynote speaker at the event. The Chicago Department of Transportation has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the drawbridges in Chicago. Mr. Burke spoke about the importance of Chicago drawbridges and answered questions from the audience.</p>

The producer and director presented CEF president Nancy Ross with a dvd copy of Chicago Drawbridges for the Union League Club library and archives. The film is available for members to borrow from the Library.</p>
